First Week of 2015 - Goals and Updates

Happy New Year! A week into 2015 and it's going great!

I normally don't make New Years resolutions, but I did find a list from Jan. 2014 in a pile of junk in my office. I had wrote a list of possible New Years resolutions (just playing with the idea), and then stuffed it into a stack of papers. Of course, I forgot about it...until I found it a few days ago. A whole year had gone by and sadly, I didn't accomplish half of it. I know, I know, it wasn't a REAL list or whatever. But it was a list of general goals and I am sad that internally, even though I forgot that I wrote it, I didn't not reach more than one or two of the goals. It listed stuff like travel (check!), volunteer more, watch less TV, and become a morning person.
So general.

Maybe that was the problem. I had made goals that were not specific enough. I think that may be a problem for many people. Not just me. Possibly why many people don't keep their resolutions? Or maybe they don't want it enough? Not sure, but I guess this could be another post that I don't have time for. I won't try to dissect resolutions any further. :) Let me know your thoughts on them,..

I did however give myself a CHALLENGE for 2015.
I am going to accomplish (or at least try to, and get really really close!) running
2,015 miles in 2015.
It is very specific (at least 5.5 miles a day) and very do-able, especially since I am training for an ultra in March. It's that extra push that I need. :)

For the first week of January, I have completed about 44 miles. I'm a little behind.  But no worries. I am planning some high mileage weeks pretty soon, many of the runs being with my trail running group.

Getting some miles in on the Northwest River Path.

Goals for 2013

I've been thinking about this for awhile now.
I've read other blogs and some of you have really long, detailed lists of goals!
My goals are not so detailed:

I want to get out there and run.
I want to be healthy.
I want to continue enjoying my life.
I want to have fun.

That's it.
My goals for 2013.
And that's all I want them to be.
Right now, I have a lot of pressure in my life.
I have pressure from my job and my classes to be on top of it all of the time.
Why would I want to create more pressure by creating a list of extremely detailed goals?
It makes no sense.
I should want to have fun with my hobby.
And I am. :)

Little goals will pop up along the way.
I may want to get faster, go farther, etc.
And I will take it as it comes.
But if I make a list, I will never remember what I put on it.
Believe me, I've tried that before.
Didn't work.

So, here I go into the new year with a few general goals.
I'm looking ahead at another marathon, and even an ultra.
Definitely Rim to Rim to Rim.
But I will only train and sign up when I have the time and energy.
And that's okay.

Remember, we run because we love to.
Not all of us are professional athletes.
We do it because it keeps us healthy, motivated for life and we have a blast doing it. :)

HAPPY RUNNING!

Operation More Energy

I'm on a mission to combat this tiredness that my body seems to have become accustomed to.

I will call the Sleep Lab at the University of Arizona today to schedule an appointment. If the cause is something sleep related (like sleep apnea) then there's not too much I can do about it on my own.

However, I'm going to try a few things as well...just to make sure:
  1. No more snoozing. I used to hit the snooze button multiple times every morning. Chance told me it could be creating a sleep apnea type effect.I must wake up the first time and stay up.
  2. Cut out soda for two weeks. And coffee. Not a big coffee drinker (I like my tea!) but I drink soda like no other. I'm addicted to the carbonation fizz....mmm. The caffeine could be dehydrating me .
  3. Drink more water. I've been informed that I need to be drinking a minimum of 75 oz. a day when I'm training. I have a marked water bottle and I'm trying to down 3-4 of them everyday.
  4. Exercise even on rest days. I'm not talking about running on rest days but instead doing yoga or weights on those days instead. I need to constantly stay active.
  5. and lastly, Start running in the morning. I have a tendency to run at night (I'm used to the heat). However, it is getting colder and my energy seems to increase before I go to bed. If I run in the mornings, I can get that energy during the day when I need it most.

This is the plan for now. Crossing my fingers that it will help. I really don't want to deal with a sleep problem.

In other news, I discovered Team Sparkle a little while ago and now I want some sparkly skirts!

Only 5 more days until my first triathlon!

There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth…not going all the way, and not starting.

August Goals

I feel it's about time I become organized with...everything. You know, like my training, specifically. And possibly my life, but that will come later (HA).  I don't keep a training notebook or anything, so this blog is it

I've decided to record my goals for each month and a recap of each past month. August will be a little weird because my new training plans start on the 7th and school starts on the 22nd, etc. Bear with me.

  • Join TriCats (a triathlon training group at the University)
  • Stick to half marathon/marathon training plans
  • Eliminate soda

I'm keeping it fairly simple for now. As the month progresses, I will add a few more goals.

I hear this before leaving the house last night for a run: "You look like an alien"

Do I? Chance said it. So what if I'm wearing a headband, my headlamp and my headphones? Fine, I admit, I look a tiny bit ridiculous, but I don't look like an alien. Love you too. :P

Also, took this picture. Thought it was cool. What do you think?

Expect some kind of change soon. Ok, ok, I won't surprise you. I'm planning a change in my layout, so don't be alarmed. I'm almost up to my 100th post (!), so it might be for that celebration. :)
