Goals for 2013

I've been thinking about this for awhile now.
I've read other blogs and some of you have really long, detailed lists of goals!
My goals are not so detailed:

I want to get out there and run.
I want to be healthy.
I want to continue enjoying my life.
I want to have fun.

That's it.
My goals for 2013.
And that's all I want them to be.
Right now, I have a lot of pressure in my life.
I have pressure from my job and my classes to be on top of it all of the time.
Why would I want to create more pressure by creating a list of extremely detailed goals?
It makes no sense.
I should want to have fun with my hobby.
And I am. :)

Little goals will pop up along the way.
I may want to get faster, go farther, etc.
And I will take it as it comes.
But if I make a list, I will never remember what I put on it.
Believe me, I've tried that before.
Didn't work.

So, here I go into the new year with a few general goals.
I'm looking ahead at another marathon, and even an ultra.
Definitely Rim to Rim to Rim.
But I will only train and sign up when I have the time and energy.
And that's okay.

Remember, we run because we love to.
Not all of us are professional athletes.
We do it because it keeps us healthy, motivated for life and we have a blast doing it. :)

HAPPY RUNNING!

  1. Ha, yeah, I would never be able to keep track of detailed goals! I definitely think keeping it simple is what works for me because there is just too much going on!

    1. There really is too much going on. What's funny is that a lot of runners that have these detailed goals are accountants. Maybe it has something to with that lol.

  2. I want to do a rim-to-rim too; though I'll probably start with just Plateau Point & back, or maybe Phantom Ranch, just drive up there one morning this spring and see how it goes!

    1. I may have to try that too. I'm definitely doing the OP 50 next year to prep for it. Someone from TTR told me the R2R2R (42 miles) is much harder than 50 miles. Which I totally believe with those climbs out of the canyon.

  3. I couldn't agree more with this post! I used to have super long goal list, but I kept it simple this year and rather focus on quality than quantity. So far it works great and I don't feel so overwhelmed as in previous years.

  4. iook at my own after reading yours and I started thinking - I run because I love running - and I want to keep loving running... Maybe my goals next time will be to just stay motivated, stay positive and forget about times, miles and try to remember its all about the (s)miles! Haha
